Canada Is Calling: The Summer of Domestic Travel
Canadians are rediscovering their own backyard, with TRAVELSAVERS Canada launching a new campaign to spotlight the country's most remarkable destinations
TORONTO (July 28, 2026) – This summer, Canadians are proving they don't need to cross an ocean - or even a border - to experience an unforgettable vacation.
As global geopolitical uncertainty, fluctuating exchange rates, rising travel costs and a growing desire for more meaningful experiences reshape vacation planning, domestic travel has emerged as one of the defining trends of the season.
Recognizing this shift, TRAVELSAVERS Canada has launched its Close to Home campaign, showcasing curated Canadian getaways, destination inspiration and exclusive travel offers from coast to coast. The initiative encourages travellers to explore both iconic destinations and hidden gems with the guidance of a professional travel advisor, making it easier to uncover enriching experiences tailored to their interests.
“Some of the most memorable travel experiences are waiting right here in Canada,” said Jane Clementino, Senior Vice President and General Manager, TRAVELSAVERS Canada. “This summer, travellers are exploring destinations they may have overlooked, supporting local businesses and discovering just how much their own country has to offer.”
The trend is evident across the industry. A June 2026 Leger 360 survey found that 77 per cent of Canadians planning a summer leisure trip intend to travel domestically. That interest is also translating into bookings, with increasing demand for destinations from coast to coast, particularly the Maritimes, Newfoundland, British Columbia and the Canadian Rockies.
"Travellers from Ontario and Western Canada are taking the opportunity to finally experience these bucket-list destinations, while we're also seeing strong demand for Western Canada tours through British Columbia, the Rockies and Alberta from travellers in Eastern Canada," said Mark Silvestri, Channel Marketing Coordinator, Globus. "It's clear that Canadians are using this moment to explore iconic parts of the country they may have always wanted to visit."
Beyond where Canadians are choosing to vacation, how they're exploring is evolving as well. Rather than building itineraries around as many destinations as possible, consumers are embracing a slower, more intentional style of travel.
"We're seeing strong domestic interest in destinations that offer both iconic experiences and opportunities to connect in a more intimate way with a place," said Amelia Sugerman, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications, Collette. "The Canadian Rockies continue to attract travellers with their incredible scenery and outdoor experiences, while destinations like Prince Edward Island and the Maritimes are resonating with guests who want to immerse themselves in local culture, food and history. Travellers are looking to slow down, spend more time in their destination, and come away with experiences that feel authentic and memorable."
As Canadians continue to rediscover destinations across the country, professional travel advisors are helping them uncover experiences they might otherwise miss. From personalized itineraries and lesser-known destinations to exclusive offers and local expertise, advisors are making it easier to experience Canada in a way that feels seamless, personal and memorable.
