TRAVELSAVERS Canada survey reveals top travel trends for 2026
A new survey of advisors affiliated with TRAVELSAVERS Canada points to what travellers are prioritizing for 2026, with bucket-list trips, longer-haul destinations and comfort-focused travel leading the way.
Both Europe and Asia on the rise
According to the survey, travellers in 2026 are expected to choose trips that reflect their interests, including visits to both well-known and more remote destinations.
Europe remains the top draw.
Italy is predicted to be the year’s leading destination, with Portugal and Greece also ranking in the top five.
Expanded direct flight options from Canada to cities such as Porto, Naples and Catania are helping spur demand.
Travellers are also looking beyond Western Europe.
Eastern Europe placed second in the “trending destinations” category, cited for fewer crowds and greater affordability.
Many advisors said their clients are seeking “destination dupes” — places that offer a similar experience to popular regions with more space and better value.
Interest in Asia is also rising.
Japan took the top spot among trending destinations for 2026, supported by demand for cultural immersion.
As capacity to Japan remains limited, Thailand, Vietnam and Bali are also experiencing increased interest.
“We‘re seeing an appetite for longer-haul trips to explore less obvious, more culturally diverse destinations,” said Jane Clementino, senior vice president and general manager of TRAVELSAVERS Canada.
“Our clients look forward to making memories with their families and friends and once committed, typically opt for all the bells and whistles of a luxury experience to make their vacations extra special.”
Travel styles to watch
Advisors ranked all-inclusive travel as next year’s top travel style.
Respondents highlighted ease of planning, upfront budgeting and convenience as key drivers of interest.
The survey notes that many all-inclusive resorts are adding upgraded dining, wellness programming and local experiences, which is drawing younger travellers in addition to families and couples.
Advisors also reported that more major hotel brands are increasing investment in all-inclusive offerings.
“With so many options for all-inclusives in so many parts of the world, travellers need guidance to choose the right resort for their needs,” Clementino said.
“That’s where the expertise of a travel advisor comes in. Savvy consumers know that travelling with the guidance of an advisor results in a superior trip.”
Active and adventure travel, river cruising, family travel and luxury travel rounded out the top five styles.
Bucket-list travel topped the emerging trends list, with advisors saying clients are seeking trips that feel meaningful, whether that means exploring a new region, celebrating a milestone or pursuing a long-held travel goal.
Home-style accommodations, personalized experiences, authentic travel and off-the-beaten-path itineraries completed the top five emerging trends.
Many advisors said clients want deeper connections with local culture and prefer experiences tailored to their interests.
“In 2026, Canadians will expand their horizons,” Clementino said.
“They’re looking for destinations that are rich in history with exotic cuisine and authentic yet upscale accommodations. When an advisor tailors a trip to their client’s budget and preferences, as only they can do, the result is memories that last a lifetime.”
